Can the alert pin of the MAX6635 pin be left floating? It appears that the ALERT pin is an open-drain output, so I believe it should be OK to be left floating, but the datasheet does not say one way or another.

MAX6635 ALERT# open-drain output pin can be left unconnected without causing damage, as long as Absolute Maximum Ratings are not exceeded.
If ALERT# output is not used, the device pin should be left unconnected right at the device. There is some small leakage current (1uA max) which will tend to bring ALERT# towards GND, so as long as ALERT# isn't tied to a long-wire antenna in a high ESD environment, it should be fine.
