AD8156 and ADN4612 in HDMI application

Can I use AD8156 and ADN4612 in HDMI 2.0 applications. They want to know whether these switches will work with HDMI 2.0 protocol. Thread 36599 on ADI’s Engineer Zone states “The ADN4612 is an asynchronous, protocol agnostic crosspoint switch, which means it can support any protocol (assuming NRZ modulated)”.

I have searched and cannot tell whether HDMI is NRZ modulated. Can you please confirm whether AD8156 and ADN4612 can natively switch HDMI 2.0.

Thanks,

  • Hi,

The ADN4612 VTTI and VTTO supplies operate at 1.8V and 2.5V respectively and therefore they must be AC-coupled to be compatible with HDMI interfaces. AC-coupling is acceptable in the HDMI standard as long as the HDMI receiver or HDMI transmitter provide a 50-ohm single-ended or 100-ohm differential termination to the 3.3V supply.
