Mux inputs above the positive supply rail?

Category: Datasheet/Specs
Product Number: ADG1606

I have a circuit design with the ADG1606.  The positive supply rail is +3.3V and the negative rail is ground.  Are there internal protections against voltages on the inputs that are above the positive rail?  For example, one of the inputs on the board was +4V.  Will overdriving the inputs damage the IC?

Thanks.

  • Hi,  .

Yes, the ADG1606 has internal clamp diodes to the rails, but it is not intended to tolerate sustained input voltages above VDD. A +4 V input on a 3.3 V-powered ADG1606 violates the recommended operating range and forward-biases the internal clamp diode. It may survive if the current is limited to within the absolute maximum rating, but if the source can force excessive current, the device can be damaged.

    Best regards,
