I2C Controlled 4 x 4 USB matrix using 8 x MAX4899AEETE+T 4 x MAX7310 and 1 x ADG2188

Thread Summary

The user asked for help setting the default I2C address for the ADG2188 and ensuring the correct reset configuration for the ADG2188 and MAX7310 in a USB matrix design. The engineer confirmed that the ADG2188 address is set by A2, A1, and A0, and advised pulling the RESET pins high through 10kΩ resistors and momentarily shorting to ground for reset. The user updated the design, setting AD0 high on the second ADG2188 to change its address to 1110001.

Hi

I have made schematics for I2C Controlled 4 x 4 USB matrix using 8 x MAX4899AEETE+T 4 x MAX7310 and 1 x ADG2188.

Could you please help me with setting the default address for ADG2188.

Also see if I have missed any supporting components needed for the Ic’s to work?

Am I reading the datasheets correctly that the reset pins for ADG2188 and MAX7310 should be pulled high through 10k resister then shorted to ground to rest them?

Below are the 2-part schematics.

Thanks

  • Hi MSC2000.   will follow up here on your question.

  • Hi,  .

To set the default address for the ADG2188, the device uses a 7-bit address where the four most significant bits are fixed at 1110, and the three least significant bits are determined by the logic levels on pins A2, A1, and A0. In your schematic, it appears that all three address pins are tied to ground, which sets them to logic 0 and results in a valid default address. Regarding the RESET pins for both the ADG2188 and MAX7310, you're reading the datasheets correctly: although the ADG2188 datasheet does not explicitly mention pull-up resistors, it requires the RESET pin to be held high during normal operation. Therefore, it is standard practice to pull RESET high through a 10kΩ resistor to VDD and momentarily short it to ground to perform a reset. Could you please confirm if the address lines (A0, A1, A2) and the RESET pin are hardwired to ground in your design? If so, the ADG2188 will remain in a reset state, and its switching functionality cannot be controlled until RESET is pulled high.

    Best regards,
    Christian

  • Hi Christian

Thank you for your help, I have updated my design.

So, the reset pins on ADG2188 and MAX7310 are now pulled high through a 10k and added momentary switches to pull to GND.

I have added a second ADG2188BCPZ to also pull the reset switch to GND.

I have set the AD0 to high on the second ADG2188BCPZ will this change the address to:

    A6 A5 A4 A3 A2 A1 A0

     1   1   1   0   0   0    1

    Attached is the updated design

    Thanks
