ADG3123 analog voltage range

To whom it may concern,

I am intrigued by the ADG3123 because it affords logic-level to high-voltage bipolar outputs. However, I do not necessarily need the high voltage range specified in the part datasheet. Can this part operate at VDDA=VDDB=3V or VDDA=VDDB=5V and VSS=0V levels? This is a typical use case for my application.

While the datasheet describes the min recommended VDDB to GND and VDDB to VSS is 10.8V, I believe my above biasing conditions do not violate the absolute max ratings (i.e. VDDA <= VDDB, as well as what is shown in the screen capture below).

Please advise.

Thank you kindly,

Scott

  • I appreciate the reply. Are you saying that the "ADG3123 will operate fine" with my voltage range because the part will not be susceptible to damage? Or, will the part function properly? I'm assuming the part needs a minimum VDDA/VDDB to fundamentally operate as a level translator.

  • Hi Scott,

The part will still operate with your given voltage ranges but, we can't guarantee that the timing and digital I/O levels are still the same as indicated in the specifications table. To ensure that the parameters are met, the potential differences between the supply nodes are within the minimum and maximum range specified in the power requirements section.

Also, what are your specific applications and the voltage levels you are level translating? This information will help us identify the best level translator suited for your application.

    Best regards,
    Christian

  • My target application incorporates a custom display driver, so the fact that ADG3123 is used for LCD displays intrigued me. However, unlike LCD, our voltage ranges are not quite as high -- typically 5V on the positive rail and -5V->0V on the negative rail.

For reference, i have been using the ADG1234 as a level shifter component for prior projects. The ADG3123 might represent a higher-channel-count solution.

  • Hi Scott,

The ADG1234 is a Quad Single Pole, Double Throw (SPDT) switch that is not capable of level translation between the input and output.

The level translators are capable of translating voltages to a higher (up translate) or lower (down translate) levels. The ADG3123 is a level translator that translates the input signals into voltage output levels set by the VDDA, VDDB, and VSS supplies.

For us to further identify the specific part (switch or level translator) that is best suited for your application, can you send us a copy of your schematic here or through email where you used the ADG1234?

    Best regards,
    Christian
