AD7888 interfacing

Hi team,

I am working on a project where I need to interface AD7888 with a micro-controller (I am using MSP430F6736).

The MCU has a SPI interface. Could anyone help me out with the steps from where I need to start and what steps do I need to follow?

Thank you.

  • Hi Kd0704,

Sorry missed the thread. In the future, if you have questions related ADC or precision ADC in particular, please start a thread in the Precision ADC community.

On your question on where to start, You should have a board or set up using the AD7888 with the recommended typical connection in Figure 8 of the AD7888 datasheet and also in the datasheet there is microprocessor interface section to give you an idea how to connect the AD788 on the microcontroller. Power up the AD7888 by supplying the VDD pin with 2.7V to 5.25V. You can refer to figure 13 of the datasheet to have the AD7888 go  on conversion in normal mode and also refer to figure 16 for the detailed timing and serial interface section of the datasheet for the explanation of the SPI interface of the AD7888. We do not have an available software driver for the AD7888 but you may look at the AD7887 wiki page as your reference software driver. They may have some differences but they also have more similarities.

By the way are you planning to use all the channels? Just in case you will not be using all channels, I would recommend connecting unused channels to ground. If you don't mind, what application are you trying to build?

    Regards,

    Jonathan
