MCS for single transciever

Category: Datasheet/Specs
Product Number: ADRV9002

Hi everyone,

I have a question on adrv9002

I want to align RX1 and RX2 of one transciver, but I didn't make any connection on MCS port.

however, in user guide (ug1828)

MCS is needed when an application requires deterministic latency among datapaths within one ADRV9001 device or multiple ADRV9001 devices.

Even though it is a single transciver, Is input from external MCS signal absolutely necessary for alignment?

Is there any way to replace it with software?

Sincery,
JaeKyung.

  • Hi JaeKyung,

Yes, MCS signal is needed for having the deterministic latency even though it is within a single transceiver (Please refer to MULTICHIP SYNCHRONIZATION chapter in user guide). One to be noted that MCS also provides phase synch capability. For enabling MCS while operating in TES or using the sample code obtain from TES doesn’t required any additional clock source since it takes in 6 pulses required for MCS operation from the FPGA (Xilinx ZC706, Xilinx ZCU102). Nevertheless, external clock source can be used for providing the required pulses.

    Regards
