ADRV9002 boot issues with ZCU102

Category: Software
Product Number: ADRV9002

Hi,

I'm trying to use the TES evaluation software build for the ADRV9002 on a ZCU102.  I built a fresh SD image (I didn't use the preloaded SD card that comes with the evaluation kit because it appears to only support the ZC706 and was not working for us) and followed the instructions in the User's Guide to try and boot linux.  I think everything is connected up correctly and I get the flashing LED's indicated in the User's guide as successful boot, however if I hook up the UART console, I can see that the boot does not complete and ends in a kernel panic.  Additionally, the TES software is not successfully connecting to the hardware device.  Has anybody experienced this issue?

Thanks.

  • Hi,

I will look into this for you. Please refer to this page initially:  TES Connection Issues

  • Hi,

If you see a kernel panic, most likely the image is written incorrectly, corrupt. You nay want to check various things in addition to the checklist in the troubleshooting guide, such as whether you have admin privileges on your machine, whether your data copied to SD is encrypted by company policy. We've seen similar issue caused by security policy. And also please try different SD card/computers.

Please let us know if you have any update.

  • Hi,

It appears that the image was written incorrectly.  In following the instructions to image a new SD card, after selecting the dev board we are using (ZCU102), it seems to blow away the boot partition/rootfs.  Can you verify that this is not happening on your end?

    Thanks.

  • Hi,

I wonder whether there was any issue in copying file into the boot partition.

The Step 2 with the "ADRV9002 Disk Image Utility" copies dev board specific files into the boot partition. You should be able to access the files from your Windows or Linux host machine.

Would it be possible to share the list of files under the BOOT partition before and after executing the Step 2?

    Thanks,

  • Hi,

For some reason, the other partition was getting erased, causing the kernel panic.  It seems to be working now, but one oddity still remains:  sometimes when I select the ZCU102 and download the files to the BOOT partition, the original ZC706 files remain.  If I re-download the ZCU102 files, it seems to work.  Sometimes it works on the first try, sometimes it takes multiple tries.

  • Hi,

We have observed this behavior on some computers occasionally, where the BOOT partition is not mapped correctly so that the files are not copied. If you don't see ZCU102 related files in the BOOT partition upon completion of the Step 2, you can always copy the files related to ZCU102 from the C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Temp directory manually in this case. I suppose it happens only with certain machine, and hope this is not too much trouble for you.
