about the Data width of ADC and DAC

Category: Datasheet/Specs
Product Number: AD9866

hello!

the question is about the datasheet of AD9866. In page 1, "FEATURES" part,it says  both DAC and ADC are 12-bit  width.
But in page 23 "DIGITAL INTERFACE" part,it says that  In half-duplex mode, the digital interface port becomes a 10-bit bidirectional bus called the ADIO port.
and also in Figure 49 and Figure 50,the ADIO bus is 10-bit width.

I want to ask why the highest two bits ADIO[11:10],were discarded in half-duplex mode.

Thanks!

Thread Notes

  • Hello,

Not sure for the reasons behind the decreased converter resolution but will try to find out.  It is an older design so some of these "why?" questions require  some digging.  Rest assured, though, that the 2 bits that are truncated are the LSB's not the MSB's of the 12-bit converter.
