Adalm Pluto Frequency Hopping

Category: Hardware
Product Number: AD9361

I'm using ANTSDR E200 which uses a Pluto IIO driver. I want to apply a frequency hopping application. I want to quickly retune 8 different 250mhz apart LOs with a 2.5mhz tune bandwith for each. My goal is compose a big spectrum with a single receiver. Is it possible and how to do it? Thanks.

  • HI  ,

Fast frequency hopping is possible, but only within the tuning speed limits of the AD9361 LO synthesizer — and it depends heavily on how you control the hops.
AD9361 IBW maximum limit is 56MHz. And your requirement is 250MHz which is beyond 56MHz from LO. This is not in the same Band and it requires LO change and recalibration. This may not be fast enough.
So, we would recommend using AD9361 Fastlock profiles mode. Fastlock allows you to: Precompute LO calibration parameters for each frequency, Store them in registers and Switch between them instantly. We call this as “Instant Frequency Hopping”.

  • Thank you very much, I will look into that. After implementing the hopping procedure, I am considering composing a wider ‘stitched’ spectrum. The idea is to capture 2.5 MHz FFT snapshots around each channel center and combine them into a single display (8 × 2.5 MHz) across the ~2 GHz span, so that I can observe the activity in all channels simultaneously in a pseudo-synchronous way.
