I'm working to program the AGC to maximize the dynamic range of the input signal. Since the 12-bit ADC max output is from -2048 to 2047. I would like my ADC output to target a value of ~1300 for varying input levels using the AGC. I did some tests with a known input at 131 MHz to see what the AGC does to the ADC output and it doesn't seem to be settling at a fixed level. For example for a -45 dBm input from a signal generator, the max ADC output was around 674 with an AGC settled gain of 41 dB. How is that determined when using the AGC? Which AGC settings should I change to maximize my dynamic range for varying input levels?
