Request for Assistance with CFR Pulse File and Threshold Settings for BW 50MHz 5GNR Signal

Category: Software
Product Number: ADRV9029
Software Version: SW6.4.0.19

Hello ADI team,

Based on your advice regarding the question below, I applied a BW 50MHz 5GNR signal at a Tx data rate of 122.88Msps.

 RE: Inquiry Regarding DPD Usage with Tx Data Rate Below 122.88MSPS

I created and used the attached CFR Pulse file for the test.

The results are shown in the image below (iBW 50MHz, TM1.1).

Looking at the image above, could you advise whether there is an issue with the CFR Pulse file or with the CFR threshold? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Additionally, I set the OSR to 1, but could you also let me know how to use the OSR for DPD? Thank you.

If there is an issue with the CFR Pulse file, could you generate a new CFR Pulse file and send it to me?

  • BW 50MHz (CF +/-25MHz)
  • SCS 30KHz
  • Data rate 122.88Msps

Please let me know if you need any additional information regarding my request.

Thanks,
Paul

  • Looking at the image above, could you advise whether there is an issue with the CFR Pulse file or with the CFR threshold? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Are you getting the expected PAR? It looks like the ACLR was degraded, are you using Hard clipper?, if so, the Hard clipper threshold should be <= CFR peak threshold.

    What is the ACLR and PAR before applying CFR? What is the RMS signal level and peak threshold used?

    Have you configured OSR of 1 in CFR configuration as well?

    I have generated the pulse with 122.88xosr 4 for NR50MHz. Please configure accordingly and test for CFR.

  • Additionally, I set the OSR to 1, but could you also let me know how to use the OSR for DPD? Thank you.

    OSR has nothing to do with DPD. Please configure DPD with default tracking configuration and test it.

  • Hello Ramarao,

    I tested with the pulse file. It looks fine with EVM and CCDF.
    But nothing has improved in ACLR.

    The configurations for CFR:

    cfrMode = 0,
    cfrTxDelay = 511,
    cfrPeakThreshold = 0.48,
    cfrEngine1PeakThresholdScaler = 0.98,
    cfrEngine2PeakThresholdScaler = 0.985,
    cfrEngine3PeakThresholdScaler = 0.99,
    cfrCorrectionThresholdScaler = 0.98,
    cfrInterpolationFactor = 2,
    cfrEngine1MaxNumOfPeaks = 5,
    cfrEngine2MaxNumOfPeaks = 5,
    cfrEngine3MaxNumOfPeaks = 5
    cfrEngine1Enable = 1,
    cfrEngine1BypassEnable = 0,
    cfrEngine2Enable = 1,
    cfrEngine2BypassEnable = 0,
    cfrEngine3Enable = 1,
    cfrEngine3BypassEnable = 0
    cfrHardClipperEnable = 1,
    cfrHardClipperThreshold = 0.55

    Please review.

    Regards,
    Jake

  • Are you testing with PA or just the Transceiver Tx out? How is the ACLR before applying CFR?

    Test just at the Tx out of transceiver.

  • I'm testing with PA. As there is no issue with 100M bandwidth, I don't need to test without PA.
    Do you think I should test without PA?

    I turned off/on CFR and the ACLR is not changed.

  • If you are testing with PA, you need to make sure that you test at back off from its rated power so that the Peak clipping comes from CFR and not from PA peak compression.

    Please test without PA and make sure that the CFR works as expected.

    I turned off/on CFR and the ACLR is not changed.

    This is what expected. Due to CFR, ACLR should not have any impact other than peak clipping.

  • I tested without PA, and got follow results:

    Please review.

  • I can see PAR as expected from CCDF plot. Why is ACLR bad? Before applying CFR, how is the ACLR?

  • I tested without PA and CFR. Only DPD is enabled.

    ACLR is bad, too.

    Please review.

  • Please disable DPD as well. My point is before applying CFR and after applying CFR, the ACLR should not be impacted.
