3) Transmit/Receive Example

In this section, a simple transmit and receive configuration will be set up and observed.

1) Start by connecting a signal generator to the port labelled "RX1A_IN" and connecting a spectrum analyzer to the port labelled "TX1_OUT".

2) In the "Device Configuration" sub tab under the "Configure" tab, we will set up a narrowband configuration. The device can be set to "TDD" and "DMR". The traffic light system will tell you if your configuration is valid. Default setting can be kept for the rest of the page.

3) Next, in the "Carriers" sub tab, set the Rx1 carrier frequency to 700MHz (the intermediate frequency can remain at the default 490 kHz). Set the Tx1 carrier frequency to 1600 MHz. The rest of the settings on this page can remain as default.

4) You can now view the Rx/Tx overview tabs to see if you are satisfied.

5) To program the part click the "Program" button. Ensure that signal generator output is not turned on during programming.

Once programmed, you will see "Programmed" on the screen as shown.

6) In the transmit tab, along the left side you will see a "Data Source" dropdown menu. Select "Single Tone" from the menu. Click the play icon when you are ready.

In this example, the tone is placed 3 kHz from the carrier.

You should now also be able to see this tone on the connected spectrum analyzer.

Press the stop button before the next step.

7) Now, we will view the Receive tab.

Set your signal generator to 700.002 MHz and amplitude of -10 dBm. Turn on the output of your signal generator.

You should now be able to see a tone at the set frequency.

If the tone is not exactly where it is expected, try using an external LO from the "Carriers" sub tab in the "Configure" tab.

8) When shutting down the system, ensure to go to File > Shut Down Platform to safely shut down.

For more detailed information please refer to the ADRV9001 Evaluation System section of the user guide.
