Request with improving receiver sensitivity of adrv9002 transceiver

Thread Summary

The user is trying to improve the receiver sensitivity of the ADRV9002 in a satellite communication setup, currently achieving -40 dBm with no data losses. The final answer suggests checking the AGC settings and using a narrower bandwidth profile, as the ADRV9008-1 can handle signals down to -70 dBm. The user is also asked to evaluate manual gain versus AGC and to consider the impact of using LP ADC versus HP ADC.

My team is working with the ADRV9002 as the receiver (used with Zynq ultrascale+ Zcu102 MPSoC kit) in a satellite communication setup, and I am trying to improve the receiver sensitivity.

Please note that we have our own in-house modem integrated with ADRV9002.

At the moment, I am observing the following:

Received signal power: approximately -50 dBm

And we are testing for lower symbol rates < 1 MSym/s for simpler modcods like QPSK, 8PSK (lower FEC)

So we want to improve our received sensitivity to handle signals of this power level.

In lab testing, our modem with the transceiver locks upto -40dBm only (with no data losses)

Of course, the modem (digital-end) is capable to handle even lower if the RF front end filters the noise and gives a good quality RF signal with required SNR

(Ex. With adrv9008-1 as rx, we can receive signals as low as -70dBm.. just putting this out there)

Please can you help me by providing ways to improve this ?

1) for ex.. How can I manually tune the AGC settings for best performance ?

Note- I have attached the current settings as well

2) does using narrower bandwidth help? (We are using the profile that was generated using  TES GUI for rf bandwidth =40MHz)

My team is not getting many leads on the same.. can you help me by suggesting some more ways to achieve what we are looking for

Thank you. This is quite urgent so requesting for your support
