AD9371 SPI Bus

We have a custom PCB with the AD9371 mounted and are trying to communicate with the RFIC over the SPI bus but not able to get a response. We have made sure that the chip is good and buzzed out the bus lines and everything checks out. We have also ensure that power is getting to the chip. We cannot even get a response from the scratch pad register 0x00A. We monitor the CS, DIN, DOUT, and CLK signals on a 4 channel scope and see the signals going in, but get no response out. We are only running the clock at 500kHz.

  1. What are the signals that we must have to the chip to start it and to ensure we get a response?
  2. Our current sequence of events is: 1) Setup clock chip, 2) Write to SPI config register, 3) run rest of code. Is the resetting of the chip prior to writing to the SPI config register required? We have done this prior to setting up the chip which didn't help. Could that be the issue?
  3. Is there any other way to see if the chip is getting the power and signals necessary to function properly?

Thanks!
