For devices with negative power supply requirements (such as HMC322A and HMC346A), DC-block capacitors are not required if the input and output signal common-mode levels are at 0V. For devices with a single positive supply requirement (such as HMC321A and HMC253A), the DC bias level is set by the device, typically somewhere between 0V and the supply voltage. Therefore, AC-coupling is necessary to avoid disturbing this voltage.
