With regard to the LTC5507, is it acceptable to directly connect the SHDN pin to VCC and use the same voltage for both?

We would recommend using a pull-up (current-limiting) resistor on the SHDN pin for protection as shown in Figure 3 of the datasheet. Directly connecting the SHDN pin to the Vcc would leave it unprotected, potentially causing internal op-amp control input damage due to power up/down, voltage/current surges etc. This could lead to the reliability, robustness and stability issues over the lifetime of the part.
