Question
I am using ADL5801 in the frequency band from 4400MHz to 4600MHz. Therefore, I
want to get some details of ADL5801 working in the band such as input IP3,
which do not be shown in the datasheet. Could you please help us give some
comments on it?
Answer
I don’t think we ever had a chance to characterize this part around
4400-4600MHz. It was because no vendor made a proper RF/LO balun near 4.5GHz
before the mixer release, though ADL5801 was designed as a broadband mixer up
to 6GHz. However, we did characterize the part between 5000-6000GHz thanks to
the available 5.4GHz 1:1 baluns. Please see attached for the BOM and data. I
would expect the mixer should perform similar if a proper 4.5GHz 1:1 balun is
available. Looking around over a few vendors, it seems now the customer might
be able to use a balun below for 4.5GHz application. The balun still looks good
between 4400-4600MHz on its data sheet, though the vendor, Anaren, has minimum
spec of 4800MHz. (Note: this vendor is known for overly conservative publishing
the spec).
