how to interface the EVAL-ADF9010EBZ1 and  AD9861-50EBZ

hello, can anyone help me....

i want to interface the eval-adf9010ebz1(Analog Front End) and ad9861-50ebz (mixed signal Front end) board.

first, for transmitting part, i connect the port (modout) on the ad9861-50ebz board to the (tx) port on the eval-adf9010ebz1. Then the port (tx_out) of the eval-adf9010ebz1 to the antenna.

second, for receiving part, i connect the antenna to the port (Rx) of the eval-adf9010ebz1.

but i not sure how to connect the rx_out or rx_baseband of the eval-adf9010ebz1 board to the ad9861-50ebz board.

Refer to the eval-adf9010ebz1 datasheet, the rx_baseband are connected to the J7 port which are header 40-pin and datasheet ad9861-50ebz show the rx input signal is connected to SMA J6 or SMA J7.

can anyone help me to clear about this. my point is to interface the Analog Front End board with the Mixed signal front end board.

please help.

thanks for your time

  • Hello,

    I do not have the user guide for the AD9861. But looking at the part, the Rx baseband outputs need to be connected to the ADC inputs, and the Tx inputs connected to the DAC outputs. The diagram below is a suggested application, it is not from a reference diagram. Since these are low frequency, it should be straightforward to connect these with simple wires.

    It may be necessary to add anti-aliasing filters to the between the Rx outputs and the ADC inputs, and also to filter the unwanted harmonic products from the DAC outputs.

  • The AD9861 is not recommended for new designs.  We cannot provide application support on the older AD9861 eval board . The AD9961/3 are the  parts we recommend  with lower power and higher sample rate.

  • hello icollins, thank you for your reply.

    i just refer to the instruction for the ad9861-eval board http://www.analog.com/en/content/cu_ad9861_ad9863_instructions_evaluation_tools/fca.html. and schematic for rev C http://www.analog.com/en/content/cu_ad9861_ad9863_evaluation_tools/fca.html .The instruction, schematic, jumper setting and software are included in the CD that come together with the eval-board. But i face with some difficulty to understand and setup the board. The jumper setting that ADI give is not tally with the eval-board (rev C) that i received. it make me confuse. please help

    The diagram that you give approximate with diagram application information on adf9010 datasheet page 23. I do the connection between adf9010-eval and ad9861-eval as below.

    pin ADF9010->pin (AD9861)
    RxBBIP->VIN+A
    RxBBIN->VIN-A,
    RxBBQP-> VIN+B,
    RxBBQN->VIN-B,
    TxBBIP->IOUT+A,
    TxBBIN->IOUT-A,
    TxBBQP-IOUT+B,
    TxBBQN->IOUT-B.

    About the filter. i guess the filter is already integrate in the adf9010-eval board. correct me if i wrong.

    i just wondering how can i synchronous the clock of two board? Form adf9010 datasheet, i found that the baseband frequency is 1MHz. But do not know the baseband frequency of the ad9861. what the baseband frequency of the ad9861 actually? and how can i do to sychronous the clock of 2 board.. Really really hope you can help.

    thanks for your time..

  • I can answer queries related to the ADF9010 board, but I am not at all familiar with the AD9861 board.

    Apologies

  • We can offer to replace the AD9861 eval board that is no longer reccomended for new designs with the AD9961 eval board. We will not be able to support the AD9861 eval board questions.
