AD8302 to be used as an RMS power detector

Hi,

We are presently using AD8302 in our application for VSWR measurement.

I would like to use the same for our PA ALC application, where I would use it for RMS power measurement. Is it possible to use this using the Vmag pin.

Is yes, please tell me what I should do to the Vph pin (grounded or terminated to 50E...)

Regards,
Vishnu

  • Hi, Vishnu,

Are you trying to reuse the same AD8302 that you use for VSWR meas., to measure PA output power in the ALC loop also?  If you provide a known -30 dBm signal at one input, you can use the other input to measure ~ -60 to 0 dBm level.  Still, dedicated detectors are much cheaper than the 8302, and probably cost less space than to provide a -30 dBm reference and the switching needed to reuse the 8302.
