Offset Voltage at ADL5304 Output

Hi,

We are using the ADL5304 as the TIA for our new project, since we need to measure the output voltage from 0V onwards we designed the log amplifier with dual power supply such that we apply a +5V supply as VPOS and -5V as VNEG as suggested in the datasheet, but when the output of the amplifier ie, VLOG is checked without given any light to the photodiode there is a 1.454V output at VLOG pin, We designed the log amp with the Option no 10 in the (Table 4. VLOG Scaling Options in the datasheet ) such that the max VLOG will be of 0.6V, but the output voltage is now in the 1.5 range, the schematic is also attached it, Can anyone tells why this happens???

  • Hi.

I moved this question about the ADL5304 to the RF Components Community.  Someone here should be able to assist you.

  • Dear Customer,

Firstly, is it a typo in your email discribing the product number: ADL5303?

ADL5303 is new product that supports single +5V supply only.

I believe you want to understand how to use ADL5304, right?

If yes, please configure your ADL5304 in "option 10".

Make sure VSMX = DCBI = INPS = GROUND.

In your schematic, try short the C4 to see the Vlog behavior, please.

  • Hi Dongfeng ,

Thank you for the response and we are using the ADL5304 in the dual supply mode, we will check with the suggested corrections and get back to you soon..

  • Hi DongFeng,

I have removed the C4 and measured the output response with an oscilloscope and now the output voltage within the specified range and the output also varies with the input power variation as described in the datasheet, once again thank you very much for your support and let me as you one more question that the reference diagram given in the ADL5304 evaluation board fact sheet has a capacitor in the same position as that of C4 thats why I included the C4 in schematics, so could you please tell me how a 0.1 uF decoupling capacitor causes such a 1.5 V offset voltage  at the output..???

  • Dear Customer,

Please read the same ADL5304 User Guide schematic, you will find R18 as one DIN component in factory default

setting: option 1. Install R18 = 0ohm will force VSMx = 0V. Otherwise, when not short C4, VSMx could be floated without connecting to any specified voltage referece source.
