ADL5330 and AD8318 AGC circuit

Hi Experts,

I used ADL5330 and AD8318 to configure AGC Loop.

The circuit is same as Fig37 in page16 of ADL5330 spec.

In CW mode, it works perfect.

I have a question, if I want to use it in pulse mode.

Carrier is 500M, the pulse width is 100ms.

Vset is set at 1.5V. DC bias from an REF circuit.

Do I need to set the Vset with modulating signal, in pulse mode?

    Hi Tom,

    Although I have never exercised the ADL5330/AD8318 in pulsed mode myself, my recommendation is to try the circuit with the AD8318 CLPF pin (pin 5) open. The noise floor of the AD8318 may be slightly higher but this may be compensated by the narrow bandwidth of the ADL5330 gain control interface described in my previous reply. The AD8318 datasheet states that  repetition rates of 45MHz can be achieved under these conditions, far in excess of the rate you are describing.
