HMC1106 mixer as upconverter

Hello everybody,

I am going to use HMC1106 in a design. I would like to know if it can be used as an upconverter.

I have an input signal from 4 GHz to 20 GHz. I want to mix it with a local oscillator from 28 GHz to 44 GHz and take the output at 24 GHz. (28 - 4 = 24 GHz and 44 - 20 = 24 GHz)

Does this mixer can operate in this way?

Thanks for your attention.

Regards,

Payam

  • Hi Payam,

The HMC1106 is a passive mixer, therefore it can work both as an upconverter and downconverter.

In your application the input signal should at the IF port (4GHz-20GHz) and the output will be at the RF port (24GHz). The Local oscillator signal (28-44GHz) will be at the LO port.  The performance might be slightly different than the datasheet specification as it was measured as a downconverter with an LO signal at 36.1GHz.

Depending on the application a filter can then be placed after the RF port to filter out the upper sideband as the lower sideband is being used.

    Thanks,

    Taz
