HMC908 EVB_Noise Floor

Hi Everyone,

I have a problem with HMC908LC5 Evaluation Board. The noise floor value on the board

suddenly increases from Pin=-30dBm as attached. Is it normal performance? I need to bring it

down to -140 or -130 dBm. Do you know any method of improving this?

  • Hi,

We are working on this and will get back to you soon.

    Thanks,

  • Hi Taz,

Thanks for your reply. Sorry for pressing you, but I would like to know your

    status on this.

  • Hi,

    I apologize for the delay.

Firstly, I'd like to point out that the HMC908LC5 is not recommended for new designs. If this is a new design please contact us and we'll work through searching an IQ mixer for your requirements.

We did verify this measurement in the lab (I.e Noise Floor vs RFIN Level at 325 kHz). The noise floor increases as you get closer to the IF output (in this case DC) and decreases as you move away. So for this application the noise floor would be more at 100kHz and less at 700kHz.

We are still trying to ascertain the reason for this increase in the noise floor as the RFIN power increases. I'll get back when we have more info.

    Thanks,

    Taz

  • Hi Taz,

Thank you for the reply. Yes, this is a new design and we need alternative part.

I found HMC1113 in your wabsite but its P1dB value (-7 dBm) did not meet our request (-4~-5 dBm at least)

Also we need the reason for the increase on the noise floor of HMC908.

    Thanks,
