Yes, The HMC408 will work in CW mode and provide a 1W/+30dBm output depending on the target operating conditions and device match. The matching circuit suggested in the datasheet is optimized to provide peak power of 1W/+30dBm at 5.8GHz, although this circuit can be tuned to yield comparable performance at other frequencies. To do this, I would suggest performing simulations using the s-parameter model file provided on the product page and then tweak the circuit experimentally. The nominal current consumption of the device while it yields peak power is about 1.2A, though this number will vary device-device and over temperature.

What is the procedure to simulate HMC 408 in ADS?

Download the S-Parameter .zip file form the web page.

place the .s2p file in your ADS project directory, data folder.

place a 2 port data element on you schematic.

link the 2 port element to the file you downloaded.

add an S parameter template to your schematic.

you will need to "match" the amp to your desired frequency band.

run the sim and tune your circuit.

unfortunately, you cannot get large signal results when using these small signal S parameters (s2p) files.

you would need the actually device model and ADI does not provide those publicly.

you can however use the s2p file to provide a good match at the frequency you need.

you could then implement that match on the eval board and take the data sets that you need.

after matching and tuning we need to provide baising to the IC. how to do that?

refer to the last couple of pages in the datasheet; the schematic and the PCB layout.

you will need to feed the DC bias through an RF choke (inductor) try to stay close to the suggested layout and component values listed in the datasheet.

Vpd will only need a decoupling capacitor.

FormerMember,  I would also like to re-tune the HMC408. After downloading the s-parameters, I noticed this line in the comments of the touchstone file:

"Input reference is the input pin of the device, output reference is the last component on output line."

To re-match the device, we need the s-parameters that are de-embedded to the output pin of the device. Can Analog provide that?

we do not have S-parameter data that is de-embedded to the output pin. the RF input is indeed matched internally to 50ohms.  The output is matched using a minimal number of external components. you should indeed be able to re-tune the HMC408. The datasheet webpage provides the S-parameters for the eval board as it is shipped.
