Which is better for a low phase noise comb line at 16G, a) to double 8 to 16G with a HMC573, HMC814 or HMC561; b) to quadruple 4G to 16G with HMC370? Assume a 4 to 8G doubler is ideal. From the data sheets, it seems the quad multiplier HMC370 has a higher phase noise floor, -140dBc/Hz from 1 to 10MHz. Whereas the x2 multipliers hit -150dBc/Hz above 3MHz. Any direct experience related to the above observation?? I prefer HMC370 for simplicity, but I need the best phase noise I can get.
I don't have any direct experience working with your application however the HMC814 is probably a good compromise, providing simplicity and excellent phase noise. The HMC561 should provide slightly better phase noise but with added complexity.
