hmc386 stops sweep frequency

Hello guys, the HMC386LP4E on my PCB frequently broken down: it stops sweep the frequency, stays at a single frequency point, however the controlling voltage is right.

i thought it might because of the power, but my power supply is 3.3V from a LDO AMS1117-3.3, the datasheet claims the absolute maximum voltage can be 3.5V, since the LDO is pretty smooth, so i am really confused about the reason it stops working normally.

  • Hi there,

I apologize for the delay in getting back to you.

If the device is mounted to "your" board as opposed to the evaluation board a number of things could be the problem.

    1) Is it drawing the nominal current (35-40mA depending on Vcc)?

    2) If so, were ESD precautions observed?  These are Class 0 parts so it's easy to damage them during handling / solder attach.

    3) Perhaps it's assembly related (solder joint) - might try reflowing the device using the least amount of heat possible for the solder alloy used.

    4) If all seems o.k. - replace part with a new device.

    Best Regards,

    Marty
