ADMV8818 Evaluation Board - ACE Program fails to startup on new laptop

Category: Software
Product Number: ADMV8818
Software Version: ACE 1.30.3369.1491 and ACE 1.30.3323.1470 offline

Hi,

I had recently purchased a new laptop and I installed the latest ACE program with the ADMV8818 plugins file.

Previously I had done the setup with my old laptop and everything works fine. This time round, with the new laptop, after installing the ACE program (which I select to include the LRF and SDP drivers as well as .NET 4.8 Client), the ACE program is not able to start up with GUI window upon 1st click. The program seems to crash halfway while installing the settings.

After which, each time i click on the ACE program or directly double click on the ADMV8818 plugin zipfile, nothing happens, there's no pop up window, whatsoever.

I tried both the latest ACE software as well as the previous version which works well in my old laptop, each time, I had made it sure that I cleaned up (uninstalled everything) prior to the installation. But both attempts fail.

My new laptop does not have any SEP installed yet and hence, there is no security issue involved. It is a Windows 11 Pro. Please advice what I can do further to troubleshoot and resolve this issue.

  • One of your colleagues reported a similar issue which turned out to be related to security. Can I suggest that you get together with them as you may be trying to solve a similar problem.

  • Hi, yes, I'm aware that one of my colleagues also have similar issue. I had verified that his issue is different from mine as he had at least gotten the GUI window to be up and yet mine is crashed before up. Also, his laptop is with the SEP (Symantec Endpoint Protection) whereas mine is a brand new one without SEP installed yet, which means it is as good as those bought from outside store.

  • Can you check to see if your computer is recognizing the SDP board. Are you using SDP-S (the smaller rectangular board) or SDP-B, the larger board which is more square in shape (both should work fine with ADMV8818). I'm attaching a screen shot from my computer. The device should appear in the device manager and there should be an indication that it is working correctly (if you double click) even without ACE running.

  • I'm using the SDP-S (the smaller rectangular board) one. And my new laptop is able to recognise this board when plugged in. I had tried to plug in as an individual board as well as when interfaced with the ADMV8818 evaluation board through BTB connector. Both incidents show that my laptop is able to recognise.

  • And you have the ADMV8818 ACE plugin installed, right? It doesn't come with ACE; it needs to be installed using the the Plugin Manager.

Can you walk me again through the progression of windows that you see before and after the crash. It sounds like things stall at the screen above (i.e. ACE is loading your settings). And the ACE plugin you are trying to install is from the device's product page (www.analog.com/admv8818).

If you haven't tried this already, I'd suggest that you remove and reinstall ACE. Also check in the control panel to see if double-clicking on the ACE plugin ZIP from the product page added any installed software (if it did remove it).

  • Yes, I had the ADMV8818 ACE installed. As my laptop cannot be connected to the internet for security purpose, I had downloaded the offine version from the ACE software page (ACEInstall_1.30.3369.1491_offline.exe).

So my first step is to install this ACE and ensure that both LRF and SDP drivers as well as .NET 4.8 Client are also selected during installation. Then I double click on the ADMV8818 plugin zip file (board.admv8818.1.2020.43200.acezip). It is when i double click on the plugin file (only on the 1st attempt) that I see the ACE window popping up and trying to download some settings. After which, it just crash (ACE pop up window shuts down) and nothing happens after.

I had tried to uninstall and install at least 2 times and same issue happens. I will look at the control panel tomorrow to check if there's any activity detected during the double-clicking.

  • Try this instead. Remove ACE and the driver. Re-install ACE. Then open ACE and install the plugin from inside ACE, that is, do not use the zip file that you got on the ADMV8818 product page.

  • Hi,

I tried your advice. That is, uninstall ACE and all the related drivers. Then, reinstall ACE and same thing happen. Upon opening up, the window shows that it is searching for plugins, then loading in ACE settings, then the window disappears and never appears again.
