admv8818 - ACE program crashing

Thread Summary

The user experienced issues with the ADMV8818 evaluation board and EVAL-SDP-CS1Z controller board on Windows 11, where the program crashes when attempting to activate the board icon. The problem was resolved by disabling security measures set up by the IT department, allowing the software to function correctly. The software works fine on Windows 10 and was tested on both Windows 10 and 11 by the support engineer.

Hi. Top image is my laptop screenshot. Bottom image is user guide

I use the EVAL-SDP-CS1Z controller board as per user guide

1) the ADMV8818 icon that appears from my laptop is different from that of user guide

2) When I activate the * in my laptop icon, the controller card LED flashes which I assume it tests the comms link.

3) When I double click my icon as per user guide pg5, the entire program crashes/closes by itself

4) Rebooting several times also yields the same result as above.

5) I can never get to the screen control panel (bottom image).

Please assist to help me solve this issue as it means I cannot test out the ADMV8818 evaluation board. Thank you

  • I don't have an ADMV8818 board on hand so I can't test this on the bench right not. But I'll try to get a board over the next few days. In the meantime, can you try the following.

    1. Disconnect the ADMV8818 and SDP card from the computer and try to run ACE. With no board connected, you can still open ACE and see the main control GUI for ADMV8818. If you cannot get this far even with the board not connected, then the problem is probably somewhere in the software.

    2. Reinstalling ACE is worth a try but before you do that, can I suggest that you try to install ACE and attempt to control the board from a different computer.

  • Thank you very much for your reply. Will try out the suggestions

  • Hi

We have reinstalled the software in our laptop but the same problem remains. My laptop is running on Win11

We checked with another colleague. He has no issues but his laptop is Win10

Could this be a problem of compatibility issues of the windows version for this SW?

    Thank you

  • I have access to  Windows 10 and  Windows 11 laptops. I'll take a look once I get the board in hand. If you do not have the eval board and SDP board connected to the laptop, can you get to the main gui screen or does it also crash (with no board connected)?

  • Hi

In windows 11, I get exactly the screen shot as per attached image. Can see the main GUI but cannot detect the hardware (the evaluation board & SDP card). Will crash when no board is connected when tried to activate the icon on the extreme left. Concurrently, I am getting my IT department colleagues to help look into this aspect eg. perhaps some windows settings. Will update once I hear from them

In windows 10, all is working perferctly as per application note. Hardware detected etc when the evaluation board & SDP card is connected to the laptop

  • I got the board fired up in the lab today and everything worked fine on Win 10 and Win 11 computers. The fact that the software is crashing even with the Eval board & SDP not connected to the computer, suggest a software issue. When the software crashes, is there anything to see that could be grabbed with a screen shot. Or does the software close and disappear?

I'm requesting help from the ACE support team via their forum ((+) Analysis Control Evaluation (ACE) Software - EngineerZone). - Eamon

  • Hi. It finally works now. It's my IT department that has set up some security measures to prevent the driver from work. After disabling the security protocol, it now works perfectly. We are now trying to internally work around this internal issue

Thank you very much for for suggestions & help. I am very thankful for the support

We can now close this case
