Hello Forum,
I am using ADL5961 VNA chip in my design. According to the design requirements I need to interface the IFF and IFR differential signal pairs with an FPGA.
According to ADL5961 datasheet I need to add a ADC to interface these signals with DSP, which is in my case an FPGA. But as per the specifications the Vpp of these signals is 8V max.
kindly suggest me some ADCs as per these requirements. and also correct me if I am doing anything wrong or misinterpreting any data from datasheet.
Thanks in advance....
regards,
Ragini Sen
Hi Ragini,
just because the ADL5960 can output 8Vpp, does not mean that you have to choose an ADC that can accept an input that large. If you are designing a VNA, then you have control of the environment, e.g. the size of the excitation signal that you apply to the device under test. What intermediate frequency are you planning to use (i.e. output frequency from ADL5961)? Also, I assume that this will be a narrow-band signal (a swept sine wave if it's a typical network analyzer application). Also, do you know how much ADC resolution you require? AD9083 has been used successfully with ADL5960 but it may be overkill for your application because it is a16 channel ADC. I'm guessing that you need only two or four channels, right?
