Cannot find the ESD measurements with multimeter

Hello,

I used this amplifier in my designs, and it seems that all 4 amplifiers I got produced a short circuit from input to output. 

I ordered a new batch 3 new amplifier and decided to test them out first with a multimeter before populating them, I couldn't find any ESD drop voltage on my multimeter, from input to VDD/GND, and from output to VDD/GND. I figured this could be because the amplifier has an internal bypass cap.

I measured again ESD measurement with the multimeter from VGG1/2 to GND, there were ESD reading of 0.4V. I tried measuring from VDD to GND and I got a short circuit reading. I switched to ohmic test and there was 11 Ohms measured between VDD to GND.

Could you please assist me with this product, if I am measuring something wrong I would like to know about it.

    I'm not quite sure what's going on here — based on the values you provided; it does seem like the device may be damaged. Can you share what operating conditions are being used?

    For the input and output side (RFIN/RFOUT), since the device is internally AC-coupled, you should expect to see an open load (OL) on a DMM, which matches your observation.

    From what you’ve shared, it looks like only the power supply rails were measured, but not RFIN and RFOUT. If you are seeing a short or very low resistance on those pins, that could indicate internal damage to the device.

    Below is a quick procedure to measure an evaluation board with ESD protection using the diode setting on a DMM.

    Also, to confirm — I assume you're performing these measurements with the power off and using just the multimeter?

    RFIN/RFOUT to GND 

    • If ESD diodes are present, you should expect a diode drop between 0.5V to 0.7V in one direction, and open (OL) in the reverse (or high resistance).
    • If input protection is absent, reading could be very high.
    • ESD event damage can be determine by short circuit (low ohms).

    VDD to GND

    • If ESD diode are present, you should expect a diode drop between 0.5V–0.8V in one direction, and open (OL) In reverse (or high resistance)
    • If input protection is absent, reading could be very high.
    • ESD event internal failure can be determine by a short circuit (low ohms)

    VGG to GND

    • If ESD diodes are present, you should expect diode drop in one direction.
    • If input protection is absent, reading could be Open load, OL both ways.
    • ESD event damage can bet determine by short circuit.
