Phase Word enable/disable

Thread Summary

The user was unsure if the Phase Word use is always enabled or disabled on the ADMV4530, but found that Register 0x2B allows control over the Phase Word (Sigma Delta Modulator controls). Adjusting the Phase Word did not improve spur performance in Fractional-N mode, despite improvements seen on the ADF4372. Test parameters: fLO=28.25GHz, fIF=2.5GHz, fREF=100MHz (Ovenized Crystal Reference).

ADMV4530 includes registers 1B,1C, and 1D for setting a Phase Word value (24-bits total) but I do not see a register containing a bit for enabling/disabling the Phase Word use. Is it always on or always off?

I am operating the ADMV4530 in Factional-N mode and so far when I adjust the Phase Word values, I am not yet seeing any change in the spur performance.

There is clear degradation in spurious products within +/-1MHz of the desired signal when switching from a Integer-N situation to Fractional-N. I am accustomed to seeing the Phase Word improve such spurs on the ADF4372, but not seeing any change yet on the ADMV4530.

My test parameters are;

fLO=28.25GHz

fIF=2.5GHz

fREF=100MHz (Ovenized, Crystal Reference, Wenzel)
