About the F/W regarding the SC1894A Series.

Thread Summary

The user inquired about the differences between firmware versions 00B00, 00B13, and 00C13 for the SC1894A Series. The final answer confirmed that the 00C13 firmware is the latest and best version, with extensive improvements over the 00B13 version, particularly in PDET functionality. Early adopters using 00B00 or 00B13 may need to retest their systems if they switch to the 00C13 firmware. For detailed differences, a support request on the SC1894 product web page is recommended.

I would like to inquire about the F/W regarding the SC1894A Series.

Looking at the differences in the F/W, it seems that the APD functionality is the same, but some improvements have been made to the PDET functionality.

It appears that unused pins are present in the 00C13 version. Please compare the differences between the below two F/W versions.

My customer is using both FW versions on their current model, and we need to confirm the differences between them. Please verify and provide details.

  • The SC1894 IC silicon has been unchanged for 12 years or so.  The firmware evolved over the years.  This was due to incorporating improvements, supporting evolving wireless standards, adding new features requested by key customers etc.  The firmware is programmed into the EEPROM in the factory during final test.  To distinguish ICs with different firmware, the part number is different based on the firmware. The first released firmware was the one in the 00B0 version.  This was eventually replaced with the 4.1.05.01 version used in the 00B13 part.  The final firmware version is 4.1.03.08 used in the 00C13 part.  This is the best version to use.  However, customers that were early adopters of the SC1894 back when the 00B00 or 00B13 firmware was the latest version have gone through all their internal testing plus regulatory compliance testing of their systems required by their country.  Switching to a more recent firmware would require redoing all this testing.  Therefore to support such customers, we continue to ship parts with the B00 and B13 firmware.  There is nothing to prevent one from purchasing a C13 part and loading an earlier firmware to convert the part say from C13 to B13 or B00 to C13.  There are extensive differences between B13 and C13 firmwares.  Having worked on both, I know this.  However, this is not the forum to go into a detailed description.  It would also require a lot of effort and time to compile such a description.  I suggest you submit a support request on the SC1894 product web page.
