HMC521A Upper Sideband Selection

Category: Datasheet/Specs
Product Number: HMC521A

Hi!

I ran two configurations of the HMC521ALC4 mixer as an SSB upconverter:

1. LO: 8GHz, IF 1GHz (QCN-13D+ Hybrid)

2. LO: 9GHz, IF 155MHz (ADPQ-2-250 Hybrid)

The available datasheet of HMC521ALC4 (Rev. A) states: "To select the upper sideband when using the HMC521ALC4 as an upconverter, connect the IF1 pin to the 90° port of the hybrid, and connect the IF2 pin to the 0° port of the hybrid."

External hybrids are fed through the sum port, where +90 deg ports are connected to the mixer's IF1 port (pin 11). Analogically, the 0 deg port is connected to the IF2 port (pin 9).

In both cases, I got the lower sideband as an RF output, which does not match the datasheet information.

The fact that a similar mixer (HMC520A) has IF ports reversed, leads me to believe there might be a mistake in the datasheet.

Please let me know if more detailed information is needed to solve this issue.
