PA_BIAS Voltage not turning up

Category: Hardware
Product Number: ADAR1000

Hi team,

TX Mode for PA_BIAS configuration in SPI_TR Mode

In ADAR1000-Eval kit (REV B), after writing the foll: registers in Manual register tab of GUI

0x0081

0x0018

0x40055

0x3860

0x2f7f

0x362d

0x3706

0x3142

0x1cff

0x2036

0x2135

0x2802

0x31da

0x3040

0x2985

0x2a85

0x2b85

0x2c85

0x31da

we got foll: measurements in P9A connector

Channel  Pin Voltage
PA_BIAS1 23 0V
PA_BIAS2 17 -5V
PA_BIAS3 11 0V
PA_BIAS4 5 0v

But as per datasheet we are supposed to obtain -1.1V for 0x85 value.

We are also not able to get the exact CREG values as mentioned in datasheet :

Pin Voltage(As per datasheet) Observed voltage
CREG1 1.8V 0V
CREG2 2.8V 2.7V
CREG3 2.8V 2.7V
CREG4 1.8V 1.7V

Kindly let us know if any software changes to be taken care while doing this

  • The SPI writes look correct for what you want to do.  Can you confirm:

    • Board revision is Rev. B?
      • Rev. B is fairly old.  Has this been in your possession for a while?
    • Re-do the measurement and ensure you are measuring the pin on P9A you think you are.  It is easy to measure adjacent pins in error
    • Remeasure CREG1.  That should not be 0V
  • We are using Rev. B eval schematic. All tests are being carried out using the same.

Is it required to switch to Rev. D version ?

We have measured multiple times so I believe pin error may not have happened.

CREG1 is measured as 0V only.

Any ideas would be highly appreciated.

  • If the ADAR1000 is working, it is not required to switch to the Rev. D.  I still do measurements on Rev. B boards.

The CREG1 being 0V could effect the PA Bias.  See Figure 86 in the datasheet.    You may have a damaged ADAR1000.

You may want to purchase the latest evaluation board.
