Hi Team,
I have the following queries regarding the HMC994APM5E:
Can you confirm the sequencing to turn on the amplifier? I am considering powering up VGG1 first, then VGG2 (3.5V), and finally VDD (11V). Can VGG and VDD be applied at the same time?
What is the current drawn on VGG1 (-1V) and VGG2 (3.5V)? Is it acceptable to obtain these voltages using a resistor divider circuit?
I am using this amplifier in the Ku-Band. Can I use the suggested Bias-TEE circuit? What will be the loss at a frequency of 18 GHz?
Considering the current drawn is 250 mA at 11V, can I assume the power consumption/heat dissipation to be 2.75W?

Hi Singam,
1. I would not reccomend biasing Vgg1 and Vdd at the same time. Make sure Vgg1 is up first. You should be okay biasing Vgg1>Vgg2>Vdd.
2. We do not have data for this but to reach Idd = 250mA (Vdd = 11V) typically the Vgg1would be ~-.54V. So Vgg1=-1V would make the Idd much lower, close to pinchoff.
3. Yes. The RL would be around -12dB for S11 and -15dB for S22.
4. Depending on input power and operation temp this can vary. If using it at room temp and in the linear region 2.75W sounds like it would be in the ballpark of what to expect.

Thank you for the response. Can you please confirm the use of inductor (56nH) 0402DF-560XJR, operating the amplifier at Ku Band.
Will the loss remains same, since the Inductor (0402DF-560XJR) maximum SRF is about 2.2GHz. can you please comment on this, I am not able to get enough power (27dBm) at the Output of amplifier even after feeding high input power.
