ADF4382A Multiple Frequency Simulation

Thread Summary

The user encountered an error simulating equally spaced output frequencies from 5-10GHz in ADIsimPLL for the ADF4382A. The issue arises because the ADF4382A's fundamental VCO range is 11.5-21GHz, and the output dividers (2 and 4) create gaps in the 5-10GHz range. The full ADF4382 version will cover 11-22GHz, resolving these gaps.

Hi,

I am trying to simulate the ADF4382A in ADIsimPLL. I would like to simulate equally spaced output frequencies from 5-10GHz, but I get an error saying the VCO is out of range, even though the VCO can output this frequency range, by using an output divider.

If I tell the software I would like to simulate just one output frequency at 5GHz, no error occurs.

Is this a bug? Or is there a limitation on the VCO that I don't understand?

Many Thanks,

James

Thread Notes

  • Hi,

This is happening because ADF4382A variant covers a fundamental range between 11.5GHz and 21GHz, and supports output divider only 2, and 4. This leaves some gaps in the entire frequency range ( between 5.25GHz - 5.75GHz and 10.5GHz - 11.5GHz) which are not supported. Sadly, your settings fall within this range. Although the full ADF4382 version which will be out at a later date (end of summer) will cover the entire frequency range (11GHz - 22GHz).
