Hi,
I am planning to use these amplifiers HMC994APM5E & HMC1082LP4E for pulsed application by switching gate voltage between ON & OFF voltages. Please suggest is it okay to proceed like this?

Hey Pathu,
Can you provide additional information on this? Is there a specific target time for switching gate voltage in mind. Would you like both devices to operate a nominal operating conditional or do you have specific drain current you are targeting? For HMC994, there are two gate voltages. Are you only interested in pulsing VGG1?

Dorant
Hi,
Yes, approximately gate voltage will be switched ON for 500nS on 1mS time period. Drain current will be same as suggested in datasheet. If gate voltage is pulsed, average drain current only get consumed based on the duty cycle. For HMC994, I would like to switch VGG1. Since my application is pulsed I would like to operate these amplifiers in pulsed mode to reduce overall consumption & dissipation
Hey Pathu,
It depends on what you are using to switch the gate voltage on and off. If you are using HMC980 to switch on and off the gate voltage, it would be too slow for your targeted response time. You can see additional information the response time of VGATE (pg.9-10) for HMC980 within this app note AN-1363 (Rev.B) (analog.com).
You would need to find a switch that would not be degraded by negative voltage and would fast enough for your application.
