IQ demodulation at 40kHz

Thread Summary

The user is experiencing issues with I/Q demodulation at 40 kHz RF and 160 kHz LO using the AD8333 evaluation board, despite the AD8333 specs indicating it should work with a square wave LO down to 10 kHz. The support engineer is investigating the issue and will provide further information. The user is considering the AD8339 as an alternative, noting its compatibility with LVDS-driven square wave LO signals down to 10 kHz.

Hello,

I have an application where I would like to do I/Q demodulation of a RF signal @ 40 kHz.

I have bought the AD8333 evaluation board for this, but for some reasons the mixing of the LO square wave (160 kHz) & RF (40 kHz) signals did not seem to work .The input of the LVDS driver was a square 0 - 3 V, and the RF input was a sine +/- 100 mV. (I have on the other hand checked that it was working at higher frequencies, typically 8 MHz LO and 2 MHz RF). Could you confirm that the evaluation board is not designed to work at those frequencies? The AD8333 specs mentions yet that it should work with a square wave drive of the LO down to 10 kHz. Is my issue associated with the LO signal level provided by the LVDS DSC90C401 driver, which is not enough at those frequencies?

I wonder whether my applicationn may on the other hand work with the AD8339: the AD8339 specs actually indicates that "a square wave drive via LVDS down" to 10 kHz is OK. Is there a difference between the LO inputs of the AD8333/AD8339 so that it would work with the LVDS drive with the AD8339 and not with the AD8333?

Best regards.
