Thread Summary

The user inquires about using the HMC438 before a clock buffer (ADCLK946 or ADC9508). The differential impedance between the complementary outputs of the HMC438 is 100Ω, and the output power is typically -1dBm regardless of input power, with a specified maximum input power for each frequency range. The same output power characteristic applies to the HMC433.

I want to use HMC438 before clock buffer, say ADCLK946 or ADC9508.

1) The output of HMC438 is complementary to each other that is Out and out bar. My question is what is the differential impedance between them? Is it 100Ohm or 50 Ohm?

2) The output level of HMC438 is given -1dBm, so is it insertion loss of the device? or no matter how much ever input i give the output will always be -1dBm?

3) Question number 2 is common for HMC433 aswell

  • .Hi,

    1. For differential it is 100Ω and for single-ended it is 50Ω.

    2. The -1dBm is the typical output power of the HMC438 no matter how much input power is supplied. Take note that there is a specified maximum input power for each input frequency range.

    3. The same answer as number 2 for HMC433.

    Best regards,
