Can the LT5512 be used to directly convert RF down to audio baseband?

It depends on the modulation scheme. In case you are using the complex (I, Q) modulation and you convert it to baseband, some information will be lost. Next issue is the minimum frequency you want to process, The IF output is probably current output and supply goes via inductive component (inductor or transformer), thus in case of low audio frequencies, the inductance can be quite high.)
