ADAR1000 + ADTR

Hi,

We have some doubts about the damage on the ADTR TX path (PA) when interfacing an ADAR1000 to it. Our case is that we have an ADAR1000 + ADTR working for RX and TX, we had total control over them via SPI. After some hours at the highest performance in TX and power it down/power it up, there is no output signal in TX mode. Power consumption remains as the expected values, SPI replies properly, the RX path works and we followed the power up and power down sequence by turning on the 5V after the PA_BIAS is on a known value.

We wonder that something might be broken. Do you experience the same problem? How does the ADAR and ADTR show that something is broken (for example, the PA)?

  • There isn't a whole lot you can do once something is damaged on the ADAR1000 to check to see if a signal is at its output.  Do you have the CLPR_OUT on the ADTR1107 connected to a DETx input of the ADAR1000?

    What power levels were applied to the RF_IO pin of the ADAR1000 and the output on the ADTR1107 during the TX testing?

    After testing different scenarios, we still have the same issue and the ADAR1000 does not switch to TX mode and also the CPRL_OUT from the ADTR does not show any signal. 

    - We are using the adar1000 driver with iio and also the adar1000_array object from pyadi. 

    - We have tested the switch control via spi and external gpios and it happens the same, no TX signal.

    - All the TX registers return the expected values.

    - Power levels applied are between -27dBm and -19dBm.

    - We did not have any problem with RX mode.

    - Power consumption of the entire circuit is between the normal ranges.

    Do you have any idea of what could be the problem? It seems that the TR switch of the ADAR1000 is not working properly but the registers values and consumptions look ok.

  • So it doesn't matter whether you are in TR pin control or SPI control? 

    Can you do a register dump while you are in Tx mode?

  • The dump above is long, hard to parse and abstracted too much.  Can you just give a register dump of one device that is misbehaving?  And format like this:

    Having the values in hexadecimal would be easiest to digest.  Registers 0x00 to 0x052 would be good.

I have checked the registers and it is not transmitting any RF signal. Is it possible that something might be broken at the TX subcircuit of the ADAR1000? As I mentioned before the RX mode is working properly.
