HMC587_settling time

Question

Hello, 
 
 When the VCO(HMC587) is switched between two control voltages, how long does the VCO take to move from one frequency to another and settle? 
 Can this VCO meet the below target specification? 
 ==>Settling time from 50% Vt to &plusmn;3MHz of final frequency : Max 1uS

Hi Josh, 
 A closed loop response can be readily simulated in ADISimPLL. This is available for download from analog.com ADIsimPLL | Design Center | Analog Devices . 
 Below I have simulated the response going from 9GHz (50% Vtune) to 10GHz. As you can see, it would not be possible to do it within 1us. It take approximately 4us to go from 9GHz to 10GHz with a wide loop bandwidth. This would be considered to be a very fast settling time.
