HMC346 for positive control voltage operation

Dear ADI support,

Can the HMC346AMS8G switch be used with 0/+5V control voltage by connecting the ground paddle and ground pins to +VDD and DC blocking the RF input / output pins?

If so, is there any anticipated problem with RF performance aspects such as return loss, distortion or insertion loss / isolation?

Any precautions when doing this? Thank you,

Jerry

  • Hi Jerry,

It is possible in theory but supply shifting is not tried/demonstrated for this particular part. What is you RF frequency?

Please note that you should increase all pin voltages. RF pins were initially at 0V, thus they will also be shifted by 5V for example and they would require a DC block. Likewise, the driver opamp needs to be shifted as well...

You would require additional bypass capacitors from GND pins of HMC346A to PCB's RF ground to provide good AC Ground to those pins.

    Thanks
