Interface of ADRF6704 eval board I & Q input using FPGA

Category: Datasheet/Specs
Product Number: EVAL-ADRF6704

I want to use Spartan 6 FPGA to give digital data directly to I & Q port of EVAL-ADRF6704 board.

In datasheet you have used DAC to give input, Is it necessary to use DAC?

Can we give digital data directly to I and Q port?

  • Hi Anubhav

0 to 20mA is a programmable current in DAC device and its purpose is to generate 0.5V common mode voltage. ADRF6704 datasheet doesn't say details on the input port except impedance plot in Figure 14. I also checked out similar device ADRF6755 and its datasheet says that 240uA current flow from the input ports and it indicates that input inside device has PNP configurations so in that case, common digital output port can't be connected to it. I am going to find the designer to figure out for ADRF6704.

in general ADRF6705 can fit DAC outputs and if the square waveforms are input, I am not sure how much harmonics are generated.

  • I am very great full of your response .

I wanted to operate at 2.7 GHz so ADRF6755 is not a good choice but Thank you for the recommendation.

So if can provide 0.5 dc bais common mode voltage to both inputs plus the data signal then i am good to go right?

please let me know the harmonic response of Square pulse so that i can start experimenting.

    Thank you

  • Hi Anubhav

I talked to the designer and it might be possible to drive I/Q input ports by general purpose I/O (GPIO), but we have not tested such kinds of conditions. Unfortunately I don't have test set-up to inject digital square pulse at I/Q format with me so I can not provide harmonic degradation levels with the digital input case.
