sawtooth setup in ADF4159 and ADF5901


Is there a way to setup the number of sawtooth generated from ADF4159 and ADF5901, or how can I determine the number of sawtooth in a frame by using EV-RADAR-MMIC2 since I need the number to calculate the velocity of the target.

    Hi, The ADF4159 by itself can only do one ramp or unlimited (continuous) ramps. In TinyRad we use the TxData to ADF4159 input and trigger individual ramps from the DSP. Using this method is is possible to set the amount of ramps and count them from amount of TxData pulses the DSP has sent.

    If you cannot use TxData triggering then a fixed amount of ramps with fixed timing would need to be used and you would have to rely on the timing being consistent to assume number of ramps stays the same each frame which would allow you to estimate that you are getting the same number of ramps each time

    One other thing I just remembered, the ADF4159 supports ramp complete to muxout. This will send a pulse out from muxout pin when the device is ramping at the lowest and highest frequency of each ramp. You could count the number of ramps that have elapsed with this and then stop ramping when required
