EV HMC642 Operating manual

I don't quite understand how to operate the EVHMC642ALC5.

- Is one suppose to plug in 5V to Vdd and short the phase BITS 1-6 according to desired phase shift? (or the +5 to Vdd and the negative cord -5 to Vss?.. ground to case pin?)

- Datasheet also says -5V on Vss, but on image there is only Vdd and Vee. Any clarification on this is appreciated.

- Is it just me with a bundle of confusion where schematics says:

9 - 11, BIT6, BIT5, BIT4
13 - 15, BIT3, BIT2, BIT1
But then on EV board, the PINs are labelled B1, B2, B3, B4, B5, B6, B6 (HAT), B5 (HAT), B4 (HAT) and B3 (HAT) which is totally unrelated to the BITS mapping of pins.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks

  • +5V on VDD (pin 16), -5V on VEE/VSS(pin 12) and apply 0V or 5V to the BIT pins to adjust the phase. 0V on all BIT pins for 0 deg and 5V on all BIT pins for 354 deg. The labeling on the eval board is very confusing. Best thing to do is figure out which pins on the headers you need to connect to (and whether they are for supply voltage or phase programming) based on the pinout.

  • I see, I thought once one finds the +5V and -5V supply, one was supposed to short the BIT pins in order to get the phase. I'll give this a try (not even the retail shop knew how to operate this thing, except for guessing).

Also, there isn't any exposed GND pin... the far left and far right pins (next to the BIT pins) seem to be connected to the chip's NC pins.

A simple connection scheme provided in the docs wouldn't hurt...

EDIT: update, with +5 Vdd and -5 Vss I get RF throughput. Next step ..phase.

EDIT2: it's just like you said.. +5V on a BIT will enable the phaseshift.

    Thanks a bunch!
