HMC908A IQ Demodulator

Hi,

I am using HMC908A IQ Demodulator evaluation board EV1HMC908ALC5. It worked perfectly fine for two days (as I found phase imbalance at various LO power levels successfully) but on the third day when I connected VDD1 & VDD2 at 3.3V @ 65mA, VDD3 at 5V @ 80mA & GND pins and powered it up VDD3 is drawing more current with no load and showing short circuit. Previously current dissipation was less than 1mA on VDD3 during tests with no load. Please tell me what's just happened?

Yumna

  • Hi Yumna,

Its difficult to debug without more information but from your description it sounds like there was ESD damage on one of the pins-> very likely the VDD3 pin. Note the ESD HBM voltage for the HMC908A is rated at 250V so its particularly sensitive to ESD damage and proper ESD precautions need to be followed when handling the device.

    Thanks,

    Taz
