HMC546MS8G pin 6(Vdd) is short to the exposed pad(GND)?

Hello, everyone!

Today, I test the chip HMC546MS8G itself, I found pin 6 (Vdd) is short to the exposed pad(GND) and the resistor to GND is about 0.2Ω, is it normal? if so, when powered, the current of vdd will be very large? I think it is very strange. When the chip is installed on the PCB, the suitation is the same. Is there anything wrong with this chip?

Thanks!

  • Hi,

I do not think Vdd should be short to ground. On page 11 of datasheet, in the Pin Descriptions table, Vdd is connected with a resistor and a cap to the ground. You should measure a very large resistance or open circuit.

Could you measure vctl (pin 3) as well?

How many HMC546MS8G do you have? Do they all have Vdd short to ground?

Please make sure that there will be no risk of ESD before you open a new part.

  • Thanks! I can't agree with you any more, I think Vdd is not supposed to be connected with GND as well. I test the vctl as well, it is not connected to GND. I have several pieces of HMC546MS8G(H546 1147), they all have Vdd short to GND, this batch(H546 1147) has some problems I think. Later, I test other batches of HMC546MS8G, they are normal!
