The AD8342 datasheet sets an absolute maximum rating of 12dBm at RF input.
We drive the AD8342 with an amplifier that has a compression point around 20dBm.
In our design there is power monitoring and variable attenuation before the AD8342.
We cant control the signal level at the system imput. We are planning to implement gain control in software, with a reaction time in the 10’s of microsecond
What is the damage mechanism of the AD8342 RF input? Is it thermal?
Can it tolerate a 20dBm signal for some microseconds until our software gain control kicks in?
